Our Story
The Introduction
It’s Spring semester 2011 when Dana walks in to Fundamentals of Business. Norman, there with his friend Luca, turns to him nudging him on the arm, saying something to the effect of ‘dibs’. Later on in that class the two would be placed in the same group.
Dana: “Hi I’m Dana”
Dana thinking: ‘Who is this Norman, he does not look like a Norman.’
Norman: “Hey I’m Norman, we really need to take our group project seriously – let’s focus on…”
Norman thinking: ‘You’re so pretty... I need to act smart.’
Norman proceeds to call an excessive number of team meetings, trying to take the reins of the group project to show off. It’s a little much, but he thinks it’s working.
Dana is not impressed.
The Turning Point
One night while at a pregame, Norman's friend (now Dana's bridesmaid) Claire, tells him Dana is joining her a cappella group and that she would be attending her first 'Octail' (an a capella cocktail party). Spotting his opportunity to spit some game - you know, that 5 year old 'Hey - go tell her to talk to me...' type of game - Norman asks Claire to suggest to Dana she might want to come to a frat party later. (At least he didn't walk over and kick her in the shin).
Much to Norman's surprise, Claire comes through, bringing Dana to the party he'd been at that evening. They spot each other from across the room; share a drunken kiss, and part ways. Romance in 2011 ladies and gentlemen.
They both go to sleep later that night thinking how awkward their next group meeting would be...
The First Date
After a few weeks of playing hard-to-get, Norman musters the courage to ask Dana on a real date at one of Carlisle’s finest eateries. As fate would have it though, the day before, Norman gets sick. Determined to see it through they go out anyway.
The date is going so well, chemistry is flying. “You have 3 sisters? You have 3 brothers? All older? How old?” …No chance you can count how many ‘me toos’ there are during the course of this meal, right down to being named after their grandfathers..
Aside from Dana thinking ‘Why hasn’t this weirdo taken a bite of his food’, it’s clear this thing could work.
He walks her home; they kiss, and part ways.
Fast Forward
6 years, 3 cities, and too many memories to count later, it was time to propose.
The Proposal
About 2 months prior to Dana’s 25th birthday, Norman tells Dana he would throw her a birthday party and not to worry about anything.
The trap is set.
August 4th, 2017 - Dana arrives at the Library Hotel expecting to have a drink before her party starts. Pregame has advanced. Norman meets her downstairs to ensure all goes to plan. They get up to the rooftop where Norman has a spot reserved. They quickly look at the menu, Norman pops up and says “I’ll go get us something from the bar”.
When he comes back, the wait staff is following - one person with a camera - another with champagne – something’s up.
He proposes, she says yes! Norman then lets her know there will be no party and instead they are going away for the weekend straight from there. (In the weeks leading up to the engagement, Norman had been stealing Dana’s clothes in anticipation. First some socks, then a couple of t-shirts, each time getting a little bolder in what he would take. He almost got found out one Saturday morning when she was looking for her favorite pair of shorts. Norman, always charming, convinced her another pair looked better.)
